Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is taking place today in Paris, where the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are expected to be launched. However, there have been recent reports about the Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra, known for its thinner design, being put on indefinite hold.
Honor is gearing up to launch the Magic V3, and Xiaomi plans to release the Mix Fold 4 this month, both boasting incredibly slim profiles. Last year, the Magic V2 was the slimmest at just 10.1 mm when folded, while the Z Fold5 was 13.4 mm thick.
Reports indicated that the Z Fold6 would be 11 mm thick. We’ll see how thick the phone is when launched. It’s possible that the Fold Ultra wasn’t thin enough compared to the Magic and Mix Fold, leading Samsung to put it on hold for now.
For years, Samsung has been the leader in the foldable smartphone market. However, the company is now facing strong competition from Chinese manufacturers who are rapidly advancing hardware innovation. To stay ahead, Samsung needs to step up its game and offer more in the foldable category. If the rumors are true, Samsung has no plans to launch the Fold Ultra for now. We might see the Ultra model with major improvements in the future. Let’s wait and see what Samsung has in store.
