Last month, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to launch its new AI, called Apple Intelligence, for free initially. However, over time, users may need to pay a monthly fee to access advanced AI features.
Analysts now confirm that Apple could eventually charge between $10 and $20 per month for these premium AI features. One possible approach could be to bundle Apple Intelligence with the Apple One subscription.
In June, Apple announced new AI features, including an upgraded Siri that can automatically generate emails and images. These features will be released in stages, with the first set already available in the developer beta. The official launch is likely to follow the release of the iPhone 16 series, with the all-new Siri expected to debut early next year.
While speaking to CNBC, two analysts discussed the possibility of Apple charging for its AI features. Last week, Neil Shah, a partner at Counterpoint Research, mentioned that Apple could bundle its AI features with the Apple One subscription and potentially charge between $10 and $20 for more advanced AI capabilities. Shah noted that “Software and services makes it more lucrative for Apple to pass it on with the Apple One subscription model.”
This week, Ben Wood, Chief of Research at CCS Insight, also told CNBC that “Apple is one of the few connected devices companies that has successfully monetized the value-added services it offers.”
They suggested that Apple might follow this approach with Apple Intelligence, offering basic features for free and charging for more advanced capabilities, similar to models used by OpenAI and Microsoft. We’ll likely get a clearer picture after the iPhone 16 series launch and as Apple Intelligence moves out of developer beta. It’s expected that Apple will roll out a subscription plan for Apple Intelligence, along with a fully enhanced Siri, early next year once everything is in full swing.
